Assessment of left ventricular volume overload: comparison of 2-D echo and cardiac MRI
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Left ventricular cavity dimensions and volumes are useful parameters to diagnose and monitor cardiac pathologies which lead to LV volume overload. 2-D echo/ Doppler is the most commonly used imaging modality to assess LV volume overload in patients with valvular regurgitant disease. However, 2-D echo suffers from inherent limitations related to adequacy of the intercostal echo window, anatomic positioning for cavity dimensions and volumes and incomplete visualization of the entire left ventricular cavity. This study was designed to compare assessment of LV cavity dimensions and volumes by 2-D echo and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) techniques in patients with LV volume overload due to valvular regurgitation

Assessment of Organ Specific Iron Overload in Transfusion-dependent Thalassemia by Magnetic Resonance Imaging Techniques
The consequence of repeated blood transfusions in thalassemia is iron overload in different organs. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a reliable, non-invasive and accurate method for iron detection in various tissues, hence the introduction of MRI has revolutionized the management of these patients and improved the life expectancy of them. Cardiac MRI T2* has a profound effect not only on est...
متن کاملLeft ventricular hypertrophy in aortic stenosis: is 2-D echo reliable?
Background Progressive pressure overload to the left ventricle, which occurs with aortic stenosis(AS), is a known stimulus to left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). However, assessment of LV wall thickness with 2-D echo has failed to show a useful correlation with severity of AS. The absence of a relationship may be due to inherent limitations in 2-D echo assessment of LV wall thickness and aortic...
متن کاملHead-to-Head Comparison of Left Ventricular Function Assessment with 64-Row Computed Tomography, Biplane Left Cineventriculography, and Both 2- and 3-Dimensional Transthoracic Echocardiography
Results For the global EF, Bland-Altman analysis showed significantly higher agreement between CT and MRI (p 0.005, 95% confidence interval: 14.2%) than for CVG ( 20.2%) and 3D Echo ( 21.2%). Only CVG (59.5 13.9%, p 0.03) significantly overestimated EF in comparison with MRI (55.6 16.0%). CT showed significantly better agreement for stroke volume than 2D Echo, 3D Echo, and CVG. In comparison wi...
متن کاملValidation of 3D echocardiographic assessment of left ventricular volumes, mass, and ejection fraction in neonates and infants with congenital heart disease: a comparison study with cardiac MRI.
BACKGROUND quantitative assessment and validation of left ventricular (LV) volumes and mass in neonates and infants with complex congenital heart disease (CHD) is important for clinical management but has not been undertaken. We compared matrix-array 3D echocardiography (3D echo) measurements of volumes, mass, and ejection fraction (EF) with those measured by cardiac MRI in young patients with ...
متن کاملEvaluation of the relationship between hepatic and cardiac iron overload with MRI T2* and carotid intima media thickness with Doppler ultrasound in beta thalassemia major patients
Background: Iron overload is caused early progression of atherosclerosis in beta thalassemia patients due to regular repeated blood transfusion. MRI T2* is a gold standard non-invasive method for detecting hepatic and cardiac iron overload. The aim of this study was the comparison of carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) in the patients and healthy control groups with Doppler ultrasound for ear...
